Water gap with high cliffs above talus slopes and boulderfield forests with a high gradient stream at the bottom. There is a high contrast in vegetation on the north and south aspects of the gap. North aspects and creek bottom have dominance by Tsuga canadensis, but this species is dying off due to infestation by the wooly adelgid. Cliff tops support woodlands of pitch pine.;Boulderfield forest on steep colluvial lower middle slope of water gap. Forest dominated by medium large Quercus prinus and Acer saccharum with viney species dominant in the understory. Herbs indicate mesophytic conditions. Secondary forest with maturing shade intolerant tree species, decadent early successional species (Robinia pseudoacacia) and regenerating shade tolerant mesophytic tree species. Substrate is rocky with soil accumulation in cracks. The talus slope may have microclimatic effects on site.
